Make it yours,
at your pace.

Everything here is optional. Quotchi works fine out of the box; these are the knobs for when you want them.

The panel

Click the sloth in your menu bar. Percentages show how much of each window you’ve used, with the reset time underneath.

  • Now: each tool’s current windows. Click a tool to expand it.
  • Plan: upcoming resets across your tools and which one has room.
  • History (Pro): how each limit filled over days and weeks. Off until you turn it on.
  • Stats: local token totals and your leading model, after you opt in.
  • Check capacity (⌘K) answers “can I start something big?” for each tool.

The gear opens Settings (⌘,). The ⋯ menu jumps to History, Plan, Tokens & models, the usage summary and AI tools. From 0.7.6 it also has Help center, Report a problem… and Check for updates…, and it always ends with Quit Quotchi. The menu bar icon has no right-click menu, so quit from here, or press ⌘Q while the panel is open.

Settings → General → Menu bar. Style picks what sits next to the sloth:

  • Smart focus · compact (default): one tool at a time, bringing forward whichever limit needs attention.
  • Two tools or All tools · wider, for parallel builders.
  • Claude, Codex or Gemini: always that one tool.
  • Sloth with a ring: a ring that fills and changes colour, no text. Sloth only: just the sloth.

Shows picks the value: Automatic (% used, switching to “back 2:30 PM” when a limit is reached), % used, % left or Time until reset. Show when a limit may run out adds an estimate like “~3:40 PM” when your last hour’s pace says you’ll run out within 90 minutes.

Alerts

Settings → Notifications → Allow gentle nudges. You get a notification at 80% used, when a limit is reached (with when it’s back) and when a fresh reading shows it reset. macOS asks for permission first; Send a test alert checks it works.

Customize warning levels (Free) lets you pick your own levels per limit. Quiet hours and daily or weekly digests are Pro.

Reset reminders

When a limit is used up, the panel offers Notify me when it’s back. Quotchi reminds you once at the reported reset time, then confirms with a fresh reading. Turn on Also 10 minutes before a limit comes back in Settings → Notifications for a heads-up.

Widgets

Free, in small, medium and large.

  1. Settings → General → turn on Share readings with the macOS widget. Only visible tools and their quota windows are shared: no credentials, prompts or history.
  2. Right-click your desktop (or open Notification Center) → Edit Widgets → search for Quotchi and drag it where you like.

macOS controls how often widgets refresh.

The quotchi terminal command

Settings → General → Terminal command → Install…. Quotchi copies a small helper into its Application Support folder and links ~/.local/bin/quotchi to it. No administrator password.

quotchi status [--json] # each tool’s limits, % used and reset time
quotchi can-i [tool] # exit 0 room, 1 no room, 2 unknown
quotchi wait claude [--timeout 30m] && claude -c

Tools are claude, codex and gemini. The command reads the readings the running app keeps, so Quotchi must be open, and stale readings never count as room.

Limits in Claude Code’s status line

Settings → AI tools → Claude → More ways to connect → Show limits in Claude Code’s status line. Quotchi shows you the exact change first; choose Add to Claude Code to apply it. Your existing status line keeps running first, and Quotchi adds a short segment like Claude 5h 42% · wk 61% · Codex 30%.

Turning it off offers Remove and restore previous, which puts your old status line back exactly as it was. A backup of settings.json is saved before every change. Prefer to roll your own? Try the free status line generator.

Keyboard shortcut, Shortcuts and other apps

Press ⌃⌥Q in any app to open or close the panel. Change or turn it off in Settings → General → Keyboard shortcut; no Accessibility access is needed.

Share status with other apps (Settings → General) writes a small status.json for Raycast, Alfred or SketchyBar. Shortcuts actions and quotchi:// links work without it.

Open at login

Settings → General → Open at login. If macOS asks, allow Quotchi in System Settings → General → Login Items.

Updates

Quotchi looks for a new version once a day and shows a quiet line in the panel when one is ready. Click Install… to see what’s new, then Quotchi downloads the signed update, checks it, replaces itself and reopens. In Settings → Updates you can Check for updates now, turn Check automatically off, or turn Install updates automatically on. Only the app’s name and version are sent. What’s new.

Pro license

  • Buy: Settings → Pro → Get Pro opens pricing on quotchi.com. The app itself never shows prices, so it’s always current.
  • Unlock: after purchase, open Settings → Pro → Import license… and choose the license file from your purchase. It’s verified on your Mac; no account or activation server.
  • Restore or second Mac: import the same original file again. Keep it somewhere safe, it’s your proof of purchase. Lost it? Contact us with your purchase email.
  • Move to another Mac: use Remove from this Mac… on the old one, so no more than two Macs use it.
  • Removing a license pauses Pro features but keeps your history and settings. Export and deletion always stay Free. License & refunds.

Your data

Quotchi keeps its snapshots, optional history and settings on your Mac. Export or delete history and saved Stats in Settings → Privacy and Settings → History, with or without Pro. Settings → Privacy also has Copy diagnostics (0.7.6 and later): versions and connection states only, for a bug report. The privacy guide lists exactly what’s read and what’s sent (only the daily update check).
